Differences Inside and Out

Our building is looking quite different these days, both inside and out. The most noticeable difference from down the road is that the building is now wrapped in a layer of bright yellow sheathing. Sheathing is a combination of fibreglass and drywall, and is attached to the metal framing. Insulation will be inserted between the sheathing and the drywall on the inside, and a vapour barrier and metal panels will go over the sheathing on the outside.

Once you get a little closer to our addition, you'd notice that instead of simply window spaces, we now have window frames, in a distinctive three-part design.

Then, if you were to enter the building (as Fred Martin, Director of Development, and Jen Konkle, Communication Coordinator did last week), you'd see some more exciting changes. Inside the Atrium, the two platforms on the third and fourth floor are in place, just waiting for cement to be poured into the steel deck. This open, multi-layered space with skylights is going to be very impressive in the new building! The stairs will lead up to the fourth floor peace centre, while there will be a seating area and gallery on the third floor platform, which allows access to the library.

Here are Fred Martin and Ron Junker, site supervisor, on the fourth floor. All along the outside of this level will be offices for peace centre participants, while there will be a meeting room and gallery space in the middle area.

The addition is coming along really well. The next big thing to happen is the roof - we are waiting for the roofers. The big push is to get the building all closed in so that it no longer accumulates water during this rainy spring!
