Last Spike Party!

We had a party today to celebrate the installation of the last Torq-Lok anchor ("spike") into the wall of the Atrium. Mike (aka. Purp) has installed over 2500 of these over the past few months in order to stabilize our precarious walls.

Purp shows us what the anchor looks like before he inserts it into the wall.

Purp tightens the anchor as staff, faculty and construction workers look on.

Then we had a party!

We were glad that some of the workers on site could join us.

*If you need the historical background for the “Last Spike” reference: The Last Spike is a 1971 Canadian non-fiction book by Pierre Berton describing the construction and completion of the Canadian Pacific Railway between 1881 and 1885. It is a sequel to Berton's 1970 book The National Dream. Both books formed the basis for the TV miniseries The National Dream. The book won the 1971 Governor General's Award for English-language non-fiction. Read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_Spike_(Canadian_Pacific_Railway)
