Springtime at Grebel

Spring has come to Conrad Grebel, and has brought with it two things: nicer weather, and a construction site ramping up into high gear.

The crew is busy inside and outside these days:

They've got the steel for the roof up and are starting to close in the sides of the third floor. There are actually four floors to this addition already; the lowest one is semi-underground and can't be seen from this viewpoint. This is as high as it will go.

From this viewpoint you can see the weight-bearing walls of the fourth floor peace centre holding up the roof beams. The retaining wall around the main floor level provides a window well so the first floor classroom (underground) still gets a good amount of natural light.

This is our new portable (which is taking up another five of our precious parking spots)! It is housing our sheet music library, storing some furniture and will provide an extra space for meetings or ensemble rehearsals if needed. It actually boasts quite a lovely view of the Grebel grounds and Laurel Creek from the back windows.

This is our temporary front office, located in the former ensemble rehearsal space, room 1101, right next to the Great Hall. Come down and visit us anytime (if you can find us)! We'll be in this location until our brand new office is ready in January 2014. The crew has been very accommodating - they inserted a window so we can get natural light, and added some additional power receptacles so we wouldn't trip a breaker with all of our space heaters come fall!

This was the old main office and mailroom. They've only been at it for a week, but they're already splitting it up into the new spaces it will become: an IT room, four faculty offices and a sessional office.

Last but not least, this is the view from the door which last week lead into classroom 1110. The blockworkers were quick to transform the space into music practice rooms, an electronic music studio and a sessional office. The gentleman on the ladder was doing some electrical wiring up in the ceiling.
