Level 2 floor

Last week we had a roof, and this week we have a floor to go on top of that roof, forming the first part of level 2 to come into existence. This is the finished product, drying in the beautiful sunshine today. Now I'll show you how it got there!

All the rebar has been laid on top of the steel deck. The crane is in place, pumping the first of 5 cement trucks. The workers begin raking it into place.

After the cement is raked into as even a distribution as possible, they start to work on making it look pretty.

Not sure what this machine is called - it's sort of like a giant windshield wiper with a motor on it. Anyhow, it was fun to watch them turn what looked like wet sand into a surface smooth as glass.

Although apparently that wasn't smooth enough. They set up floodlights and worked until after dark polishing away.

At least they had a dry day when they poured the floor - on Monday they poured columns in the rain, protected by plastic wrap! (They also each drank about 5 cups of coffee on Monday, trying to stay warm.)

Coming up next week: They will backfill around the building, which will help them load the block for level 2 more easily. They will be working on steel for the core of level 2, as well as block work, in addition to some reinforcements in the existing Atrium.
